Troubleshooting

  1. My yogurt failed to set properly 🙁

Make sure your milk was not too hot or cold. Hot milk will kill your bacteria and cold milk will slow down bacterial growth.
✓If in doubt, use a thermometer to carefully set the temperature.

Maybe the starter culture was of poor quality.
✓Use a fresh, recently purchased yogurt with live culture or ask a friend. Make sure you are not using flavored yogurt.

Did you shook/agitated the yogurt container during incubation period at room temperature?
✓Don’t do it!

  1. My yogurt tastes or smells bad/wrong 🙁

Your starter yogurt might be contaminated.
✓Use a fresh, recently purchased yogurt with live culture (i.e. Activia) or ask a friend who makes his or her own yogurt. Make sure you are not using flavored yogurt.

Did you leave your yogurt at room temperature for too long?.
✓Make sure to immediately refrigerate your yogurt once it’s set properly.

Remember, over heating or boiling of the milk causes an off-flavor.
✓If in doubt, use a thermometer to carefully set the temperature.
